History and Version of Ubuntu

LTS (Long Term Support) release every two years, supporting the three-year update on the desktop and five years for servers. Andy Fitzsimon is the creator of the ubuntu logo.
Ubuntu comes from African language meaning "Humanity to Others". This operating system is a derivative of the Linux operating system to another, which is Debian.
Ubuntu is supported by the company Canonical, Ltd. which has the purpose to assist the development, distribution, and promotion of products that is open source. The company is headquartered in Europe and led by Mark Shuttleworth.

Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available and have good support from community and professional experts. The main focus of the Ubuntu operating system is the user and ease of use and at each release of Ubuntu will provide safety improvements for 18 months. Ubuntu includes the desktop environments Gnome / KDE / XFCE latest in each release and also includes many diverse selection of software for servers and desktops that everything can be packed into one CD/DVD.

  • Version 4:10 (Warty Warthdog) was released on 20 October 2004, supporting server and desktop until April 30, 2006.
  • Version 5:04 (Hoary Hedgedog), released on 08 April 2005, server and desktop support until 31 October 2006.
  • Version 5.10 (Breezy Badger), released on 13 October 2005, server and desktop support to 13 April 2007.
  • Version 6.06 LTS (Drapper Drake), released on 01 June 2006, supports up to 14 July 2009 desktop and server support until 01 June 2011
  • Version 6.10 (Edgy Eft), released 26 June 2010, server and desktop support to 25 April 2008.
  • Version 7.04 (Feisty Fawn), dirils 19 April 2007, supports up to 19 servers and desktop 0ktober 2008.
  • Version 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbson) released 08 October 2007, server and desktop support until 18 April 2009.
  • Version 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) was released 24 april 2008 supports up to 12 May 2011 desktop and server support until April 2013.
  • Version 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) was released 30 October 2010, server and desktop support to 30 April 2010.
  • Version 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) was released 23 april 2009, server and desktop support to 23 October 2010
  • Version 9.10 (Karmic Koala) was released 29 October 2009, server and desktop support up to 30 April 2011
  • Version 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) released 29 April 2010, supports up to april 2013 desktop and server support until April 2015.
  • Version 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) was released 10 October 2010, server and desktop support until April 2012.
  • Version 11:04 (Natty Narwhal) Released 28 April 2011, server and desktop support until October 2012
  • Version 11:10 (Oneiric Ocelot) release 13 October 2011, server and desktop support until April 2013.
  • Version 12:04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) Released April 2012 that will come.
